About Sharon Turrentine

Sharon Turrentine

Sharon Turrentine is the chairperson of the Louisiana Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. She earned her Physical Fitness Specialist Certification at the Cooper Research Center in Dallas, Texas. She began her fitness television program, Shape Up with Sharon, on KNOE-TV8 in northeast Louisiana in 1986, which was on the air for over nine years, and in February of 1995 began a children's exercise program, KIDPOWER, both of which were seen by over 360,000 viewers. She was the fitness journalist for Pageantry Magazine, a magazine for the pageant, talent and fashion industry, for seven years, has conducted a bimonthly fitness segment on KEDM-FM public radio and written a monthly column ("Health for Senior Citizens") for a local newspaper in Monroe, Louisiana.

Sharon taught weight training classes, exclusively for women, at Northeast Louisiana University and in September of 1991 was featured in the USA Today in an article concerning contestants' use of physique trainers in the Miss America Organization.
Over the years, she has served as official physique trainer for numerous local and state title holders in many pageant systems. Since she developed her personalized program in 1990, Sharon has helped women around the world to win local, state and national swimsuit trophies. There are even four Miss America title holders among her clients.
In addition to working with women in pageants, she has designed fitness programs for women ranging in age from 15 to 82. Sharon's physique disproves the myth that lifting weights makes a woman appear "masculine." Through her education and training since 1980, Sharon has learned to shape the female body to its fullest potential.
Although Sharon no longer designs personal programs for women, she is still available to women for their day to day fitness questions. Additionally, she is still has the generic program available, and is always available to answer quesitons about a program!
